Even a hardened charity veteran like James Corden can’t believe just
how simple it can be to prevent or cure blindness in the developing world.
Brought to you by Rankin.
Right now, 39 million people in the world are blind. Nine-tenths of these people live in the developing world, where it can be hard enough to support yourself and your family without sight loss to deal with. And, unbelievably, 80% of this is preventable.
It can be so inexpensive to save a person’s sight. Just 35p can protect somebody from the blinding disease trachoma for a whole year, and £8 provides an operation to treat the advanced, painful, symptoms. We need to let the world know that, with solutions this straightforward, it’s easy to make a difference.
And this is where top photographer, director, and Sightsavers supporter Rankin came in. He told us: “Charity campaigns are saturated with negative images so this film is about making people connect with something, being honest and human. For the project I suggested that we went for something positive instead and James was the perfect man for the job.”
